What if we’ve become so accustomed to earning, striving, and proving ourselves that we’ve forgotten how to receive what Father freely gives?
📖 Scripture
«“Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.”
Matthew 10:8 (KJV)»
🌱 The Seed
There is something extraordinary hidden within this familiar instruction from Yeshua.
“Freely ye have received, freely give.”
Most of us immediately focus on the second half.
Freely give.
Be generous.
Help others.
Share what you have.
Offer compassion without expecting something in return.
And those are beautiful expressions of Father’s nature.
But perhaps we’ve overlooked something essential.
Before Yeshua tells his disciples to give, he reminds them that they have already received.
Receiving comes first.
And perhaps that order is far more important than we realize.
Because how can we freely express what we have never allowed ourselves to receive?
🌿 The Burden of Earning
From childhood, many of us learn that receiving is connected to performance.
Work hard and earn your reward.
Behave correctly and receive approval.
Accomplish something and become worthy of recognition.
Give enough and perhaps something will be given back.
Eventually, this way of thinking can become so deeply rooted within us that we carry it into our relationship with Father.
We begin imagining that divine Love must be earned.
That provision must be deserved.
That guidance is reserved for those who have become spiritually advanced.
That healing belongs only to those whose faith is strong enough.
That we must somehow prove ourselves worthy before the gifts of divine Life can flow through us.
But consider Yeshua’s words.
“Freely ye have received.”
Not purchased.
Not negotiated.
Not earned through flawless performance.
Received.
Perhaps Father’s generosity operates from a very different foundation than the systems we’ve become accustomed to.
🌿 The Source Is Not a Marketplace
Imagine standing beside a river.
The water flows continuously.
It nourishes the trees.
It provides for the creatures that depend upon it.
It moves through the landscape without demanding that the flowers first prove themselves worthy of drinking.
The river simply flows.
Now imagine someone standing beside that river, desperately trying to earn a cup of water.
They work.
They struggle.
They attempt to prove their value.
All while the water continues flowing beside them.
Perhaps something similar happens in our spiritual lives.
We become so occupied with trying to deserve Father’s Love that we overlook the invitation to receive it.
We ask what we must accomplish before we can experience peace.
What we must sacrifice before we can receive guidance.
What we must become before we can recognize our divine belonging.
And perhaps Father has been inviting us into something much simpler.
Open your hands.
Not because receiving requires no participation.
But because receiving and earning are not the same thing.
🌿 The Kingdom Was Given
Consider another statement from Yeshua:
«“Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”
Luke 12:32 (KJV)»
Read those words slowly.
Your Father’s good pleasure.
Not His reluctant obligation.
Not a reward He resents providing.
His pleasure.
And what does He delight in giving?
The Kingdom.
Perhaps we’ve spent so much time trying to reach the Kingdom that we’ve overlooked the nature of the One who gives it.
What if Father isn’t guarding the entrance, waiting for us to become impressive enough to approach?
What if He delights in our awakening?
In our healing?
In our growth?
In our discovery of the Life that flows from Him?
What if receiving the Kingdom begins with trusting the heart of the Giver?
🌿 Receiving Is Not Passivity
Now there’s something important to understand.
Receiving doesn’t mean doing nothing.
Look again at Matthew 10.
Yeshua sends his disciples out with an extraordinary invitation.
Heal the sick.
Cleanse the lepers.
Raise the dead.
Cast out demons.
These are not instructions to sit quietly and wait for someone else to act.
They are invitations to participate in Father’s works.
But notice the foundation.
“Freely ye have received, freely give.”
The disciples are not being told to manufacture divine power independently.
They are being invited to express what they have received.
Perhaps this reveals a beautiful relationship between receiving and participating.
We receive Love.
And become more capable of loving.
We receive compassion.
And become more compassionate.
We receive wisdom.
And begin expressing wisdom.
We receive peace.
And become instruments of peace.
We receive divine Life.
And become increasingly available for that Life to move through us.
Perhaps the mystery isn’t choosing between receiving and doing.
Perhaps receiving is what makes a different kind of doing possible.
Not action driven by fear.
Not generosity motivated by guilt.
Not service performed to earn approval.
But action flowing naturally from communion with the Source.
🌿 When Giving Becomes Another Form of Control
There is another dimension to this that deserves our attention.
Sometimes even our desire to help can become tangled with the need to control outcomes.
We encounter someone who is suffering.
We offer kindness.
We provide encouragement.
We share what we have.
But afterward, our minds begin asking:
Did I do enough?
Should I have done more?
What if I missed an opportunity?
What if I was supposed to change their entire life?
And suddenly, an act of Love becomes another burden.
We begin measuring ourselves by everything we could have done rather than recognizing the Love that was actually expressed.
But perhaps freely giving also means releasing our need to control what happens afterward.
We can offer compassion without possessing another person’s journey.
We can help without becoming responsible for every outcome.
We can give generously while recognizing that we are not the entire Source of provision.
And we can trust that the Love expressed through one encounter has value, even when we never discover what becomes of it.
Freely giving may require learning to release just as much as learning to offer.
🌿 The Life Flowing Through the Branches
Yeshua described our relationship with divine Life through another beautiful image.
«“I am the vine, ye are the branches.”
John 15:5 (KJV)»
Consider what happens within a vine.
The branches do not struggle to manufacture their own source of life.
They receive nourishment through their connection.
And from that nourishment, fruit begins growing.
The branch participates.
It grows.
It extends.
It bears fruit.
But its life is not independent of the vine.
Perhaps this offers a glimpse into our relationship with Father.
There is one Supreme Source.
And we are expressions of that Life.
Our role isn’t to become independent sources competing to produce enough goodness.
Perhaps it is to become increasingly conscious of our connection and allow what flows from the Source to find expression through us.
The branch receives Life, and the fruit becomes visible.
And perhaps spiritual awakening involves learning to live from that relationship rather than constantly striving to prove that we deserve it.
🌿 Can We Receive Without Guilt?
Here’s a question worth sitting with.
Why can giving sometimes feel easier than receiving?
Why do we feel comfortable helping someone else but uncomfortable when someone offers to help us?
Why can we give a gift with joy yet feel obligated to repay someone who gives us something?
Why do we sometimes turn a simple act of generosity into a debt?
Perhaps we’ve confused receiving with taking.
Or dependence with weakness.
Or generosity with obligation.
But what if receiving freely is itself an expression of trust?
What if allowing someone to bless us doesn’t diminish our worth?
What if accepting kindness doesn’t create a debt that must immediately be repaid?
And what if Father’s Love isn’t a transaction that must be balanced?
Perhaps we cannot fully understand the freedom of giving until we begin discovering the freedom of receiving.
Because when we receive without guilt, we become more capable of giving without expectation.
What flows freely into an open heart can flow freely out of it.
🌿 Love Was Never Meant to Stop With Us
There’s one more beautiful part of Yeshua’s instruction.
He doesn’t simply say:
Freely receive.
He says:
“Freely ye have received, freely give.”
Receiving isn’t the end of the journey.
It’s part of a living movement.
Love received becomes Love expressed.
Wisdom received becomes wisdom shared.
Healing experienced can awaken compassion for those who are suffering.
Provision received can become provision extended.
And perhaps this is one of the ways Father’s Kingdom becomes visible on earth.
Not through people desperately trying to prove their worth.
But through people awakening to the abundance of divine Life and allowing it to move through their existence.
Not everyone will express that Life in the same way.
One person may bring healing.
Another may bring encouragement.
Another may feed the hungry.
Another may create something beautiful.
Another may simply sit beside someone who needs to know they aren’t alone.
But each expression can become part of something much larger.
One Source. Countless expressions of Love.
🌱 A Seed to Carry
Perhaps receiving isn’t the opposite of giving.
Perhaps it is the beginning of giving freely.
When we stop trying to earn Love, we become more capable of expressing Love without demanding anything in return.
When we stop treating every gift as a debt, we become more capable of recognizing generosity for what it is.
When we stop believing that everything depends upon our own effort, we become more open to participating in something greater than ourselves.
And perhaps the greatest shift happens when we begin understanding that Father’s Love is not a reward waiting at the end of our striving.
It is the Life from which we are invited to live.
Freely received.
Freely expressed.
Freely shared.
🚶 A Walk in the Garden
Today, pay attention to the moments when something is offered to you.
A compliment.
A helping hand.
A kind gesture.
A moment of peace.
An unexpected opportunity.
An expression of affection.
Notice your first reaction.
Do you immediately feel obligated to give something back?
Do you minimize what was offered?
Do you wonder whether you deserve it?
Do you search for a hidden motive?
Or can you simply receive?
Find a quiet moment and ask:
“Father, where have I confused receiving Your Love with earning it?”
Then consider another question:
“What might become possible if I allowed myself to receive freely and give without needing to control the outcome?”
Perhaps today you’ll have an opportunity to accept kindness without guilt.
Perhaps you’ll be invited to help someone without expecting recognition.
Perhaps you’ll discover that you don’t have to solve every problem to make Love visible.
And perhaps you’ll begin recognizing that receiving and giving are not competing responsibilities.
They are two movements of the same Love.
💛 Love’s Echo
Beloved,
You have spent so much of your life trying to become worthy of what Love longs to give.
You have worked.
You have struggled.
You have searched for ways to prove that you deserve peace, provision, guidance, and belonging.
But I have never asked you to purchase My affection.
You are not a stranger attempting to negotiate your place within My heart.
You are My child.
And I delight in your awakening.
Do not mistake receiving for weakness.
Do not confuse rest with failure.
Do not believe that every blessing must be repaid before you are free to enjoy it.
Allow yourself to receive.
Receive the beauty of creation.
Receive the kindness of others.
Receive moments of peace.
Receive the opportunities that arise before you.
And as Love fills your awareness, allow it to move naturally through your life.
You do not have to become the answer to every need you encounter.
You do not have to carry the weight of every unfinished story.
Simply remain available to Love.
Give when Love moves you to give.
Rest when rest is needed.
Receive when something is freely offered.
And trust that you are participating in a Life far greater than your individual effort.
Beloved, you were never meant to earn your way into Love.
You were meant to receive Love and allow it to become visible through you.
Ashé. (May it be so.)
